Wedding Dress Detail

Originally, bridal gowns were made in bold colours, or brides would wear their best dress on their wedding day.

There are differences of opinion as to who actually wore the first white gown. Some say it was Napoleon the III's wife, others claim it was Queen Victoria's daughters.

Long white gowns became a symbol of virginal purity and until the turn of the century, a Bride wore any colour except green, which signified jealousy. Some brides still opt for colours, more so if it is a second marriage.

It is also said to be tremendous luck if your gown is accidentally ripped on your wedding day, although this can be rather upsetting!
