Time poor? Decoratively challenged? Want to turn your wedding into something spectacular, then you need a wedding stylist.

1. Hiring a wedding stylist is recommended if you are time poor, have no idea how to decorate your bedroom let along your wedding or if would like someone to come up with new, fresh creative ideas for your wedding.

2. Be upfront and honest about your budget. Insist on only reviewing decorative ideas that fit into your wedding budget and don't get your heart set on a concept that sends you into debt, it will make it very hard for you to imagine having anything less.

3. Good wedding decorators will create a wedding style that reflects good taste and not so much high cost. They will know where you can save and which areas should be given more investment.

4. View samples. Judge a decorators style by what they have done in the past and what they can show you they can create. Find someone who sees things the way you do.

5. Ask if the wedding stylist will set up a sample table complete with place settings, linens and centrepieces once you have decided on a concept and booked their services.

The cost of hiring a wedding stylist

6. The cost of hiring a wedding stylist or wedding decorator can be an hourly rate, an upfront fee or a percentage of the total cost.

7. When asking for a quote, request the stylist to break down all the costs and any extra charges, such as GST, delivery and any set up and breakdown fees that they may be incurred.

8. Check which decorations you end up owning and which are hired. For example the centrepieces, the candles, the vases, the napkins etc.

9. Appoint a few helpful wedding guests to wrap the flowers at the end of the wedding that you want to take home and anything else worth keeping.   Alternatively, some decorators may deliver 'leftovers' to your home after they have packed up, ask if they offer this service and what the fees would be.

10. Be sure to find out what time your wedding venue will allow your wedding decorator to come in and set-up and when your wedding decorator will be able to come in for the breakdown. You don't want to incur overtime fees for room hire from your wedding venue.
