The wonderful thing about china is that it is such a personal decision. It has to do with your lifestyle, your taste, your personal sense of style. With how you like to entertain and what you like to eat. It’s one of the foundations of starting a home. Vera Wang

Choosing your tableware is generally the first step in registering gifts for your bridal registry, and it can be an overwhelming place to start, with hundreds of styles and different entertaining pieces available to you.

Whether you dine out regularly or love to cook and entertain, you will want to have the right pieces for serving meals at home. With some planning and the correct tools, you'll find the best pieces and perfect range to fit your lifestyle:

  1. Browse different ranges and patterns and decide on a style, either casual, formal, traditional or modern, and build from there.
  2. Keep how you like to entertain in mind. Do you entertain mostly with intimate sit down dinner parties or are you regular lunchtime BBQ lovers? You may want to consider registering for both formal and informal collections.
  3. Decide on a style that you both like and will be happy serving at future dinner parties with family and friends.
  4. Seriously consider white. White tableware will create an infinite number of looks. White is always chic, always appropriate and always matches. The introduction of a few dramatic coloured or patterned items is just the way to freshen and excite your table's look. Then again...if you are a confident with colour and pattern and your world is already full of it, go for it!
  5. When selecting tableware first select the dinner setting then select the stemware, cutlery and napery to complement the setting - it's easier to co-ordinate this way.
  6. Picture yourselves cooking and serving a Christmas lunch or a regular meal with your kids. What accessories, platters and servers will you need to serve the meal?
  7. Don't feel you should limit your selection - include gifts that cover a broad price range from realistic and affordable, to real treats for special people who want to spoil you.
  8. If you have enough tableware, the look to adding accessories for the home, such as frames, candelabras, furnishings, artwork, centerpieces, linen and more.
