Finnish Wedding Traditions

Finland

An old Finnish tradition is for the bridal party to kidnap the bride prior to the ceremony. As you can imagine, the bride would always be late to her wedding!

Finnish superstition says that if you place an axe under your bed on your wedding night, it  will ensure that your firstborn child is a boy.

The Dance of Crowns ~ Dates back to when the bride actually wore a crown of gold. The unmarried women would dance around the blindfolded bride, and whoever she put the crown on would be the next to marry. These days the tradition lives on with the bride substituting the crown for a tiara or other headwear.
