Wedding Ring

Wedding Ring

The wedding ring is a symbol of commitment, love and respect, and the circular shape represents perpetual unity and the universe itself.

Nobody can be sure when the first wedding ring came about, although we know that ancient Egyptian brides were presented with a ring made of hemp or reeds, which obviously had to be replaced quite regularly.

The ancient Greeks and Romans progressed to more quality materials, making iron wedding rings for their future wives.

Today, we use silver, platinum or gold, the latter being the most popular choice, usually as a plain band. It is worn on the third finger on the left hand. It was believed there was a vein with a direct link to the heart, thus ensuring a marriage rich in love.
