Since ancient times, the wedding cake has always been an integral part of the big day. The cake was made of wheat, which symbolised fertility and was a blessing for the couple in the hope that they would have many children.
What started off as rice thrown at the newlyweds, evolved into biscuits, and eventually into the wedding cake.
Now the cake has developed into elaborate multi-tiered creations which came about during the reign of Charles II.
Today, cake artists can create almost anything you could possibly want, from portraits of the bride and groom to a replica of the church.
