Swiss Wedding Traditions
Traditionally, after the wedding vows have been spoken, one of the bridesmaids will lead the guests to the reception area, and pass out pieces of coloured cloth to everyone.
In return, each guest hands the bridesmaid a coin. At the reception, the bridesmaid collects the coins and presents them to the bride and groom. The money is used to assist the couple in funding their new home or to help with their honeymoon.
A pine tree is planted in the garden of the newlyweds' home, to symbolise fertility and promote the couples' happiness.
