Probably the most famous tradition of them all, and one which most brides will try and follow.
Something Old ~ This signifies the bride's eternal link with the traditions, history and continuity of her family. A majority of bride's wear a piece of bridal attire, usually the gown or wedding ring, that was worn by someone in her family.
Something New ~ This signifies the beginning of the bride's new life and hope for the future. Most brides will choose their gown or any other first hand bridal accessory.
Something Borrowed ~ This signifies the strong ties with friends and family, and that they will always be there whenever the bride may need them.
It is common for the bride to borrow a lace handkerchief, or other accessory from a friend or family member who is happily married, so that their good fortune may be passed onto her!
Something Blue ~ This signifies all things pure, like faithfulness, loyalty, devotion and everlasting love. Most garters are trimmed in blue ribbon.
A Silver Sixpence in your Shoe ~ This signifies an abundance of wealth, both emotionally and financially.
