The Receiving Line
These days, the receiving line is to give the bride and groom a chance to thank their guests for attending the wedding, and in turn for the guests to congratulate the bride and groom on their marriage.
This tradition came about as it was once thought that the bride and groom were blessed with exceptional luck. Guests would line up for a chance to touch them, in a hope that this good fortune would pass onto them.
Consider the length of time it will take for all of your guests to stop and say a few words before you decide to have a receiving line!
