Ten Ways To Stay On Budget

Wedding Photography by Lucy Leonardi Photography

Remember the vows - for richer or poorer not from richer to poorer!

Don't go over budget ... just make the most of what you've got:

1. Keep referring to your budget worksheet - if you exceed your budget in one area you'll just need to make the difference up in another. If you really want the extra tier on that wedding cake, you will have to take money from some other wedding item. To make decisions easier about what stays and goes, rank all the wedding essentials you want to include...then cull from the bottom up.

2. Be on time! Stick to your wedding day schedule and avoid high overtime costs that blow your budget.

3. Go through the wedding guest list with a fine tooth comb - - who is an acquaintance and who is a good friend. The difference between 85 and 115 guests can be thousands!

4. Negotiate. It never hurts to ask your wedding service providers for a better deal.

5. Be flexible. Hold your wedding on a Thursday - you have a much better chance of negotiating some great deals on nearly everything. Did you know that nearly 75% of weddings take place on a saturday.

6. Read the fine print - check if there are weekend penalties or hidden costs such as delivery or travelling fees.

7. Buy smart! Look out for sales both on and off line and negotiate when you buy in bulk.

8. Considering selling (or even hiring) your wedding gown and accessories to recouperate some of the costs. The sooner the better as you generally get a better price.

9. Wedding guests with talent. Check the wedding guest list for anyone who may be able to help out with a little calligraphy or perhaps a talented chocolatier for your wedding bomboniere.

10. the K.I.S.S principle ....Keep It Simple Stupid...if your budget isn’t large then skip the smaller details...forget the crystal encrusted chair covers, plain white will be just as good - catch your guests attention with a clever table centre instead .
