If a dreamy destination wedding or a heavenly honeymoon hideaway is at the top of your wedding wishlist, look no further than Australia's very own playground for the loved-up - the spectacular Whitsundays.

74 Islands make up the Whitsundays. They are unique in their landscape and abundant in what they have to offer, and after exploring the unique wedding locations found at Airlie Beach, Hamilton Island, Daydream Island and Hayman Island, we were soon to discover that the descriptions given in brochures of these beautiful islands do not do them justice.

It's sapphire blue waters are full with fish, whales, dolphins, turtles and mantarays. The water is a brilliant sapphire blue and Whitehaven Beach definitely deserves its best beach badge - all 6km it!

Climate

The climate of this region really appealed to us as a wedding destination. The Whitsundays offer sunny tropical weather virtually all year round.

Temperature averages a gorgeous 23-26 degrees in the winter months and balmy yet bearable 27-30 degrees in the summer months. As with virtually all tropical locations, most rain tends to occur in the summer months but these showers are warm and refreshing and always welcome.

Water temperatures average 23 degrees in winter and 28 degrees in summer. Expect no surf here, the Islands are protected from ocean swells by the Great Barrier Reef allowing for easy swimming and gorgeous "no mess" beach shots.

The Celebrations

Another plus for this destination is the availability of good quality food and wine. Fresh produce is readily available to the islands so if food quality and presentation is a priority for your wedding reception you won't be disappointed.

Once the celebrations are over it is an easy trip back to the airport for your guests, where you can then embark on your Honeymoon - alone!

Getting There

Getting to the Whitsunday Islands is easy. You can now fly direct to the Whitsunday Islands from most capital cities. Travel time fly direct to Hamilton Island; 1.5 hours Brisbane, 2.5 Hours Sydney; 3.5 Hours Melbourne; Adelaide 4 hours. You can also fly to Prosepine and transfer to your destination from Airlie Beach.

For the perfect honeymoon, we recommend a few nights sailing around the Islands and a few nights staying at one of the Island resorts. Sailing the islands gives your honeymoon an element of romantic fantasy and adventure, where staying on the Islands gives you luxury you crave.
