Old timber throughout and stonework has been used to construct both the main Lodge and the Chalets and original art and antiques fill all corners of the Lodge.

If you can pull yourself away from Blanket Bay, there is any number of things to do in the area. You can enjoy heli-skiing, jet boating on the Dart River, kayaking, horse riding at nearby Wyuna High Country Station or hiking the renowned Milford Sound or Routeburn Tracks.

For those looking for a slower pace you can't go past some famed Otago vintages on a wine tasting tour, boating the magnificent Lake Wakatipu or some trout fishing along a glacier fed stream.

You can wander into Glenorchy to grab some souvenirs and meander around the boardwalk talking in the incredible scenery. There are a couple of art galleries and you'll also find a great cafe serving the best mulled wine this side of Switzerland. If you are looking for more serious retail therapy and to pick up something from New Zealands best homegrown labels, we suggest you head into Queenstown.

If you decide to stay put and not leave the Lodge there are plenty of fun and games. The extensive grounds offer opportunities for romantic lakeside stolls, and there is a well equipped games room with a well stocked bar to enjoy to your hearts content at any time of the day or night. There is also a gym, spa, steam and massage room to unwind, again all with the most spectacular views of the region.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive, relax, explore the glorious grounds of Blanket Bay Lodge, if you have time book in a massage on arrival to really remove the last of your post wedding tension.

Day 2

Horse riding at the exclusive Wyuna High Country Station and indulge in a gourmet picnic for two. The horse riding is suitable for any level of experience.

Day 3

The Routeburn Track. On the National Geographic's list of Top 10 worlds best walking tracks this is a must do. Book a Guide to get all the ins and outs or just go on your own. Pack your swimmers in warmer weather to dip in the ice cool glacial water.  

Day 4

Take a Helicopter trip of a lifetime.  Our pilot from Over The Top was very experienced and showed us the ultimate view of this magnificent glacial landscape in the sleekest of helicopters, the Eurocopter.  A champagne picnic was served on our own private mountain peak - breathing pure oxygen and standing on what felt like the top of the world was unforgettably pure honeymoon heaven.

Day 5

Spend the morning in Glenorchy getting some last minute gifts or visit Queenstown for some more serious retail therapy. For those keen for another days hike/climb,  Mt Alfred's great.

Then again once you've checked in, it's likely you'll both decide to stay in and enjoy the luxury of your room and do absolutely nothing at all.
